It's important enough that we'll say it again:
A true example: One customer learned that their system did not communicate an alarm. Upon investigation it was found that the phone connection had been broken ever since the new phone system had been installed, seven months ago. If the customer had tested their system on a monthly basis the problem could have been repaired quickly.
The testing procedure is quite easy to do. The hard part is not procrastinating any longer. Once you get in the habit of testing, it will become second nature. Regular testing also lets you become more familiar with your system, which is always beneficial.
The testing procedure is listed below. (You may want to use your printer to print out this page, and keep it on your refrigerator as a reminder.) If you have any questions please call and we'll be happy to assist you. This procedure is written in Generic Format. Will work for most all Central Stations. It certainly works for all ABLE Security, Inc. customers.
You may now test your system. Arm your system and then trip a zone. Allow the system to go into alarm for about 30 seconds. Then disarm your system. You can also press and hold one of the panic buttons on the keypad for about three (3) seconds. This will send different codes. Re-arm your system and trip various other zones and make sure that they go into alarm as you expect that they should. Once you are satisfied that the system is working properly, call the Central Station back using the procedure above. This time ask for TEST RESULTS. The operator will give you a list of the signals that they received. If all is well, ask that your system be taken OFF TEST. If a problem exists, please call YOUR ALARM COMPANY.
That's all there is to Testing Your System. The whole procedure will only take about five (5) minutes. Five minutes a month is a very short time to ensure that your system is working as designed.
